If the property gate is open, Rob is probably somewhere on campus—whether he's playing on the worship team on Sunday morning, cheering at one of our school’s many sports events, or ministering to a student. Rob is deeply invested in our church and school community, and his heart for both is unmistakable. Rob represents the second of three generations at SouthGate Church. He and his wife Heather began attending the church youth group as high schoolers and have since served in various ministries for over 30 years.
Rob Arthurs received his Bachelor's degree in Music Education while playing percussion at Arizona State University. He later earned his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership through Northern Arizona University. He began his teaching career in the Scottsdale Unified School District and has taught concert band, jazz band, percussion, drumline, and general music at all grade levels for the past thirty years. In 2006, Mr. Arthurs was hired by 91st Psalm Christian School to create a music program for the school, bringing 1st - 4th grade general music, along with concert and jazz bands for grades 5-12. Currently, Mr. Arthurs is the principal of 91st Psalm Christian School while continuing to teach 5th grade, 6th grade, Jr. High, and High School concert bands.
As the largest ministry of SouthGate Church, 91st Psalm Christian School plays a vital role in shaping the next generation by "Training Up Godly Servant-Leaders." Many of our church families have chosen the school for their children, and many school families have found a church home here at SouthGate. Under Rob’s leadership, that bridge continues to grow stronger—building a thriving, Christ-centered community for generations to come.
Music is Rob’s heartbeat. Whether he's playing it, listening to it, or simply absorbing it in the background, music is woven into everything he does. He hears beauty in all genres and often says he feels like his mind is like an elevator—always filled with music in the background.
Rob has many loves—God, his family, his students, music, camping, and fishing—but one love that shows up every single day is his love for coffee. Hot or cold, flavored or black—whether it’s a summer scorcher or a chilly winter morning, you can bet there’s a cup of coffee close by. It’s more than a beverage; it’s part of his rhythm of life and a small joy he carries into each day.
Rob and his wife Heather have four children—all proud alumni of 91st Psalm Christian School. Heather teaches both Bible and Music and works in the school’s front office. Their daughter Emmalee is following in her parents’ footsteps, teaching at the school as well. The entire Arthurs family shares a passion for music—each one plays at least one instrument! Preston and Trevor serve faithfully on the SouthGate Worship Team, while their youngest Donovan plays in the pep band at Grand Canyon University and serves in Children’s Ministry. Rob and Heather’s love for the church, the school, and its people is evident in everything they do. From worship to leadership to hands-on service, their lives are a testament to commitment, faith, and joyful dedication to God’s work.
When not serving, the Arthurs family loves spending quality time outdoors. Whether it’s camping on the beaches of California, exploring the majestic beauty of Zion National Park in Utah, or relaxing in a canoe at Woods Canyon Lake with a good book in hand, they cherish the moments spent together in God’s creation. Their love for the Lord, for worship, and for each other shines brightly in all they do.
