Pastor John was born and raised in a Christian home right here in Arizona. From a young age, he sensed a clear calling to ministry through many profound and personal encounters with the Lord. In the 1970s, he joined the staff of SouthGate Church under its founding pastor, stepping into what would become a lifelong journey of faithful service. He played a vital role in the formative years of SouthGate, helping to establish key ministries and Bible classes. One of his most impactful contributions was the development of a thriving Children’s Church program, through which he ministered to countless inner-city and neighborhood children with passion and compassion.
A proud veteran, Pastor John served with honor as a Pathfinder in the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. After being wounded in action, he experienced firsthand God’s miraculous protection and healing—a testimony he continues to share today.
His heart for people is evident in the many ways he continues to serve: teaching Bible classes, visiting the sick, preaching the Word, and faithfully covering the church in prayer. Pastor John has spent countless hours praying over the property, the buildings, and every single person who walks through the gates of both the church and school. Pastor John truly walks the walk and talks the talk. He lives out his faith with unwavering integrity and encourages others to do the same. One of his greatest strengths is his ability to find God’s goodness in everything—even in the middle of life’s hardest struggles. He doesn’t allow himself or others to stay stuck in discouragement. Instead, he challenges people to look for the good, to trust God’s hand at work, and to hold on to hope—even in the darkest seasons. His perspective, rooted in faith, uplifts and inspires everyone around him. Whether he’s with a homeless neighbor behind the canal, a barber giving him a haircut, or a fellow pastor of many years, Pastor John never misses an opportunity to share the love of Jesus. His life is truly centered around Christ in every word and deed.
